SysEx Librarian overview

SysEx Librarian is a utility for Mac OS X which lets you communicate with MIDI devices using System Exclusive messages, also known as SysEx. The most common use is to backup patch data from synthesizers, although there are others (such as sending firmware updates). SysEx Librarian makes it easy to keep a library of the SysEx files you use most often, and to record new SysEx files.

What’s new in version 1.5.2

  • Fixed a hang at launch when the library contained files on an unmounted network volume.

Quite funny: I've been doing midi bulk dumps from my machines since the eighties, when I first had a sequencer with a floppy disk (it was the Roland MC-300...) and always used Cubase or Pro Tools after that... until today! :-o Yes, only today I had the idea to search again for a simple tool to do that — I've only found MidiQuest as an alternative, a few years ago, but expensive and not satisfactory with my setup. How come that I missed SysEx Librarian? I don't know, but it looks great! My only regret is that it doesn't allow to compare or edit sysex files. I agree that it probably wouldn't work with many machines (my Korg Triton only sends one looooong sysex) but my Boss SE70 sends one for each preset and it would be nice to delete all the ones that are redundant from my former dumps. I admit that this would only be the cherry on the cake. :-) Anyway, using SysEx Librarian will be far more efficient than creating a sequence in Cubase or else, etc.
