Simon for Mac

I reviewed this software, thinking it would be useful and easy to setup for several monitoring tasks. I find Simon difficult to use. The filters work counter intuitive. One of the things I tried was to check mail with apple iCloud. I could not get the map working, as it does not support TLS out of the box. I really missed a logfile of what the service is doing under the hoods. There is no (conventional) log, just an output line which does not help much when setting up new rules. Also, the help is very basic. No instructions, just a few simple examples. Left me wondering quite a few times. Waste many hours just to get some simple stuff done. I consider leaving Simon and writing custom scripts by myself, so I have full control, debugging facilities and most importantly: understand exactly what is going on. (btw, many of the services are just scripts in the Simon interface as well). too bad, tried to like it and get stuff done quickly....

Powerful and reliable, but expensive if you don't need all the features, and I found it complicated to set up initially. My main use is monitoring the pages of some internet sellers who occasionally put up stuff which sells out quickly. Simon can do this, of course, but not with the default settings, since many web pages have ads, counters and other junk that trigger false positives. So setting up an alert in Simon requires digging around in the HTML of the webpage, then adding "block filters" that check for changes in only the parts you're interested in. I feel that some kind of setup wizard could make this task a lot easier.

I'm trying to download it - both via the MacUpdate Desktop AND by downloading it via the MacUpdate download page.. but all I'm getting is "An error occurred Application error" on the download... Is there a problem with the MacUpdate download link??

Excellent app. French localisation should be great but not compulsory :)

Great monitoring software. I check customers internet connection, mailservers and voip servers.
