As a long time user I don't find Rhyme Genie's activation as painful as Lord-Lighting. You only have to drag the activation code file to the desktop and start Rhyme Genie to automatically activate it. Updates have always been free and can be activated with the same code. Changing hard drives has no effect on Rhyme Genie in any way. Granted, you still have to get a new code if you buy a new computer but you get 3 activation codes with each serial number anyhow. Competing rhyming dictionaries like MasterWriter and ThoughtOffice are substantially more expensive, haven't been updated in years, do not run on iOS and more importantly cannot match the accuracy of Rhyme Genie's intelligent rhyme. Nor do they or any other online rhyming dictionary offer syllable matching synonyms, a dedicated songwriter dictionary, integrated song titles, word filters and all the features that the free sidekick 'TuneSmith' provides.

Can't rate v5 - but only because Idolumic say "An activation code is linked to a specific computer and cannot be transferred. This is not meant to be mean spirited in any way." Ha Ha - a smiling assassin. I am unable to update to v5 without paying for another license and I can't even use v4 on my new computer - I paid for it too. Beware. Draw your own conclusions. I strongly recommend evaluating ThoughtOffice.

Versions, 3, then 4 and now 5 and the activation system is still CIA and FBI stringent. Boy, are these guys anxious. If you have a hard drive crash or swap your hard drive over or change computers between downloads of versions you will cop an extra fee just to use an app you have already paid for. The app is tied to the NIC address and your computer ID (hard drive) serial number, so if they change you pay extra. Just plain creepy and a little bit sick and very tight-arsed - but the app is brilliant so I just bit the bullet. Not happy though, I hate getting ripped off. If I pay for something I feel entitled to use it as I see fit. What do they think - I can use the app on two computers at the same time?

Well, as I said below in response to Ravenwolf, this is the Ant's Pants of rhyming tools. But I have just had to download a 248.7MB file for v3.3 after I had just done the same thing a week ago for v3.2. Why? For an update to the clipboard functionality. Why doesn't Rhyme Genie let me just update the core app for little fixes like this? Oh dear, now I have to activate it. Blimey - there goes another morning.

As a songwriter I have been looking for a rhyming dictionary that can find family rhymes for the longest time. From a creative standpoint this software is second to none. It would be better without the activation and the app takes a while to start up but it is still a great tool.
