Fluctus overview

Fluctus is the audio editor for both the newcomer and the expert. We strived to create a clean user interface without loss of functionality and customisation. Fluctus includes a unique processing engine, that we call cDSP. By designing our own audio engine, we added power and flexibility with extraordinary efficiency.

Features
  • Editing and recording via rectangular blocks called Regions
  • Easy-to-use marker system
  • 3rd-party Audio-Unit plugins support (real-time)
  • Integrated processing and metering tools (real-time)
  • Master automation layer
  • 64-bit audio processing
  • Easy project navigation
  • Changeable interface color schemes

All editing and recording is done via rearrangeable rectangular blocks called Regions. Regions represent audio files imported or recorded and you can have as many audio regions as you need in a single project.

  • Fully editable (including lock, split, resize, reverse, and much more)
  • Drawable waveform (sample by sample editing)
  • Full control with per-region inspectors
  • Individual fade-in and out (4 optional shapes)
  • Individual mute, phase reverse, pan, and gain controls

As mentioned before, this audio editor adopts a DAW paradigm in that you have to create a proprietary "project" just to make simple destructive edits (cut, copy, paste, etc) to an already existing audio file. Also, it can't seem to handle audio files with more than two channels. Same thing for the "Expert" version of Fluctus. Crashed a few times in simple operations like opening and closing a file. On the bright side, the GUI is nice and polished.

What I really don't like is that you have to create (and save) a new project (proprietary file format) before you can open ("import") a sound file. This is acceptable in "bigger" apps, where you work for hours at a big project, but not for a "quick-and-easy" audio editor. Other than that, I can't say much about Fluctus Free: it doesn't import any file type I tried, no AIFF, no ACC, no MP3, etc. – I just get an error message. Probably a bug, because from description, the app should open those file types.
