Crunch overview

Crunch lets you write Less, Sass, CoffeeScript, Markdown, and then automatically saves CSS, JavaScript, and HTML after you've made changes. Want to write just plain CSS? XML? Haskell? MUSHCode? Crunch lets you do that too. And just so you know, compiling stuff besides Less requires Crunch 2 Pro. So you're probably going to want that. (See Related Links.)

Features
  • Command Lines Are Over - Forget Grunt. Forget Gulp. Just write what you like, and save what you need.
  • Crunchable Views - See all the @imports for your Less or Stylus project, and nothing else. Until you want to.
  • Peek at Your History - New in Crunch 2: get a running log of Crunch history. (Ha, I just pictured a running log.)
  • Better for Teams - Crunch 2 saves settings in your project, so that compiling won't create code conflicts. And no one likes conflict.
  • Free for Less - Not less stuff, dummy; we mean Less, the CSS preprocessing language. Crunch 1 compiles Less for free, and so does Crunch 2.
  • Watch for Changes - Even if you don't have a file open, Crunch will watch your files and re-compile when needed. How? Magic.
  • Fix Errors Faster - If there's an error while Crunching a file, you can jump instantly to that line of the file. Pretty much Crunch takes the crown here.
  • Lightning Fast - Crunch 2 is a complete re-write from Crunch 1. We have killed Adobe AIR, and on its corpse we installed a revved-up Chromium V8 engine.

What’s new in version 2.2.1

Version 2.2.1:
  • Updates now show these nifty release notes
  • App settings migrated to file-based db (necessary for future update to NW.js)
  • Added menu item for wiping all Crunch 2 settings (Nuclear option)
  • Fixed bug where activation modal would show on re-launch if you hadn't moved your Crunch window. (I mean, who doesn't move their app window?)

While I haven't used this enough to make any thoughtful comments, I do want to grind an axe here. Attn MacUpdate Management: I do not know, nor do I care, why you persist in wrapping some applications in your own installer DMG when we click the download button above. First, for us users it is an extra step and it installs the app in our Applications folder without our permission. There is a reason Apple created the Downloads folder and where anything selected to be downloaded is filed in the Downloads folder. Like many users, I prefer to try out apps from within the Downloads folder while considering their worthiness. If I like an app, I will move it to the Applications folder. In the meantime, please stop trying to determine for us where items are to be placed while in transit, so to speak. If I find a MacUpdate wrapper, I delete the DMG and go directly to the developer's site, download their software, and keep it safely in my Downloads folder for disposition. Please don't try to anticipate our way of doing things.
